There has been much uncertainty about the extent of mangroves left remaining in the World, as result of this the ITTO commissioned a revised World Atlas of Mangroves, this was published in 2010 by Earthscan and contains the most update information of the state of mangroves today.
A report by International Union for Conservation of Nature ( IUCN ), last found that more than 1 in 6 mangroves are endangered, placing 16% of mangrove species on the IUCN Red list. The full article can be found here: Mangrove forests in worldwide decline.
